Sharpen your eye, learn the vocabulary of gesture and portraiture, experiment with different techniques, to learn about drawing. The exploration of oneself will thus reside in the subject drawn but also in the person drawing.
Learning to draw is also learning to observe one's drawing, to trace and perceive one's line, to write is thus reading through what one wishes to express.
The line drawn is always true as long as it is only an expression. The gap in meaning that exists between writing and rewriting exists in the same way between the drawing and its correction. There is no such thing as accuracy or failure.
It will therefore be a question of firstly understanding our tools: knowing the lead of our pencil, our paper, our means of expression and experimenting with them.
Then to analyse the relationship between the perceived reality and the expression projected onto the paper.
To save our means by the geometric simplification of the face (angle, light and proportions).
Finally, to learn about the nature of lines and traces as expressive means of retranscribing the characters of a face. The drawing of the portrait seen as the dynamic idea of "carrying the line" on a sheet.
