Born in 1954, Philippe Bennequin lives and works in Paris. A plastic artist and restorer of works of art, Philippe Bennequin specializes in frescos and wall paintings. Graduated from Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1982, he taught fresco painting in the Ecole de Fontainebleau between 1981 and 1985.
This art he has been practicing for years is as appealing and singular as it is demanding. Expertise and technical precision combine with a speed of execution, while conforming to the requirements of monumental formats. Working directly on the fresco wall, “a fresco”, i.e. on fresh coatings, using other media related to wall painting or techniques on monumental canvases…everything is possible in Philippe Bennequin’s studio. The course is enriched through workshops with experts, through international exchanges and the participation to artistic actions. Since 1976, Philippe Bennequin has participated in a number of fresco restoration projects for France’s Department of Historic Monuments, among others, while executing private and public commissions for frescoes and murals and exhibiting in France, Switzerland, Japan and India. In 1989, he decided to focus on his artistic activity using various mediums and prioritizing creations a fresco and in situ interventions.
