Ces images ont été tournées à Kiruna, une ville en plein déménagement. Reposant sur la plus grande mine de fer d'Europe, elle est menacée de s'effondrer. Son centre se trouve donc contraint d’être déplacé de trois kilomètres vers l’est. Ses quartiers proches deviennent des banlieues éloignées et le quartier industriel se retrouve au coeur de ville.
Contrairement à d'autres villes, ici toute la cartographie dépend de ce qui se passe sous la terre. L’activité minière est à la fois ce qui fait vivre la ville et ce qui l’oblige à déménager.
Dans les rues de Kiruna, on peut ainsi croiser de grandes villas de bois en plein déménagement. Ces trois montages invitent à partager un bout de trajet avec ces maisons, dans son ambiance toute particulière. Le dispositif qui déplace les maisons n’est jamais dévoilé, afin de donner un caractère poétique et surnaturel à ces opérations, considérées comme banales par les habitants du lieu.
Ces images font partie d’un projet artistique plus large, mêlant les transformations physiques de la ville aux récits de ses habitants.
These images were shot in Kiruna, a city in the process of moving. Built on Europe's largest iron ore mine, it is threatened with collapse. As a result, its center has been forced to move three kilometers to the east. Its nearby neighborhoods became distant suburbs, and the industrial district found itself in the heart of the city.
Unlike other cities, here all cartography depends on what goes on underground. Mining is both what sustains the city and what forces it to move.
In the streets of Kiruna, for example, we come across large wooden villas in the process of being moved. These three montages invite us to share a stretch of the journey with these houses, in their very special atmosphere. The device that moves the houses is never revealed, so as to lend a poetic and supernatural character to these operations, considered commonplace by the local inhabitants.
These images are part of a wider artistic project, combining the physical transformations of the city with the stories of its inhabitants.
