Alexandre Lenoir graduated from Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2016 with honours. He creates large-scale paintings based on photographs, evoking memories of happy days spent amidst a bountiful and mysterious natural world.

“When I rediscovered *The Water Lilies*, I was struck by the way the water moved in time with the shifting light in the exhibition rooms. I’m very interested in painting as a living entity.”

Rather than faithfully depicting nature, he seeks an alchemy that gives rise to works that appear to have been created spontaneously, almost without the artist’s intervention. A surprising sense of melancholy emanates from these familiar scenes bathed in brilliant light.
