We were deeply saddened to learn of the death on 6 May of Monique Poncelet, the first woman professor at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.

Born in 1931, Monique Poncelet began her career as a student in Jean Souverbie's studio before becoming the first woman professor at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the late 1960s. After a year as head of the painting studio in 1967, Monique Poncelet was appointed professor in charge of the drawing studio and taught there for some twenty years until 1988.
