Created by three institutions, the Beaux-Arts de Paris, the INHA and the CNRS, the Reg-Arts database provides access to the Beaux-Arts de Paris enrolment registers of more than 12,000 student painters, sculptors and engravers between 1813 and 1968.
Reg-Arts provides a central resource for art history, enabling researchers, descendants, museums and galleries to explore the data.
The digital publication of the enrolment registers, some of which are held by the National Archives and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, provides invaluable information on the names of the students who attended the school, as well as their place and date of birth, their geographical and social origin, their place of residence, their guarantor and observations on their curriculum.
Reg-Arts takes a fresh look at the history of artistic education, using new tools that enable data to be cross-referenced, visualised (maps and graphs) and exported.
This project is being carried out with the support of the Fondation Malatier-Jacquet, which is housed at the Fondation de France.
The project has been co-directed since 2020 by Alice Thomine-Berrada (Beaux-Arts de Paris), France Nerlich (INHA) and Déborah Laks (CNRS), joined in 2022 by Lucie Lachenal (post-doctoral researcher).
