Dialogue - Marianne Lanavère

Thursday 4 June 2020

6:00pm - 7:00pm

The director of the Centre international d’art et du paysage (Vassivière island), Marianne Lanavère dialogs with Alain Berland about her exhibition program, which reflects the paradoxes of landscape and our links with the living, and questions the arrangement of natural spaces.

Marianne Lanavère is the director of the Centre international d’art et du paysage (Vassivière island).

After studying art history at Paris IV-Sorbonne and museology at the École du Louvre, Marianne Lanavère was an exhibition assistant (1997-2000) at Centre Pompidou and Jeu de Paume in Paris. In 2002, she graduated with a Master degree in « Curating Contemporary Art » from the Royal College of Art in London, and then worked as an independent curator until 2005. Between 2005 and 2011, she was the director of La Galerie, Centre d’art contemporain at Noisy-le-Sec (Seine-Saint-Denis) where she curated about twenty exhibitions reflecting research related to perception and landscape.

Since 2012, she is the director of the Centre international d’art et du paysage in the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches, isolated from urban centers. Her program is based on a rural context marked invisibly by the exploitation of natural resources (hydroelectric production, forestry industry) and the development of tourism, but also on the political history of this territory.

The exhibitions reflect the paradoxes of the landscape and our links with the living, while the artists’ and researchers’ residencies question natural areas planning. At the same time, the Art Centre is renewing the model of the sculpture park, considering work as an experience through time, by answering landscape and architectural commissions in the villages and by bringing « Nouveaux Commanditaires » program of the Fondation de France to its territory.

Exhibitions in preparation: Angelika Markul, Tiphaine Calmettes, « La vie à elle-même » (Flora Katz), « Cosmopoétique du refuge » (Dénètem Touam Bona).
