Dialogue - Thomas Levy-Lasne

Thursday 14 May 2020

3:17pm - 3:17pm

A Beaux-Arts de Paris graduate and former resident of the Villa Médicis, the painter Thomas Lévy-Lasne talks about his artistic practice but also about his work as a director and an art critic.

Born in 1980 in Paris, Thomas Lévy-Lasne lives and works in Saint-Ouen. He is represented by the Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire and is a former resident of the Villa Médicis (2018-2019).

A Beaux-Arts de Paris graduate, he worked for five years for the art critic Hector Obalk, filming all the museums of Europe for television.

Festive watercolors, event charcoals, erotic webcam drawings, oil paintings of urban solitude, he approaches the most diverse and contemporary subjects in a classical way.  For the cinema, he played the lead role in Justine Triet's multi-prime medium-length film (Berlinale, Angers, Brive...) "Vilaine fille, mauvais garçon", collaborated on the screenplay of her second feature film "Victoria" and directed her first short film "Le Collectionneur" (2017).

In 2014, he co-organized the colloquium "La Fabrique de la peinture" at Collège de France under the chair of Professor Claudine Tiercelin: 16 painters testifying about their practices including Jeff Koons, Chéri Samba, Anne Neukamp or Jules de Balincourt.

He has been writing the Fine Arts pages for the fashion magazine CitizenK for 4 years.
