The male gaze
Specialist of gender in cinema and series, Iris Brey in her book Sex and the Series (Éditions de l'Olivier, 2018) analyzes the representation of female sexualities in American television series. She continues her reflection on this subject by making a documentary series for OCS by making five portraits of series heroines who have changed our view of female sexualities. Her book Le regard féminin, une révolution à l'écran (Éditions de l'Olivier, 2020), which won the Causette Prize for feminist essays, defines the female gaze in cinema and in series. She is a contributor to Les Inrockuptibles, Marie Claire and the websites Cheek Magazine and Mediapart. She is also a columnist in the program Le Cercle on Canal + after having spent three years at La Dispute on France Culture and one year on France Inter as a media columnist in l'Instant M.
She chats with Alain Berland, head of cultural programming, about her latest essay Le regard masculin published by Editions de l'Olivier.
