As a choreographer, visual artist and curator, Christian Rizzo relentlessly pursues the elasticity and tension between bodies and space in stories where fiction emerges from abstraction.
He began his artistic career in Toulouse, where he formed a rock band and created a clothing brand, before training in the plastic arts at the Villa Arson in Nice and then turning to dance.
In the 1990s, he worked as a performer in Europe with many contemporary choreographers, sometimes creating soundtracks or costumes.
In 1996, he founded the association fragile and created performances, installations, solo and group pieces, alternating with other commissions for opera, fashion and the visual arts. Since then, more than forty productions have been created, in addition to educational activities. Christian Rizzo regularly intervenes in art schools in France and abroad, as well as in structures dedicated to contemporary dance.
In 2015, Christian Rizzo became director of the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier - Occitanie. Now renamed ICI (Institut Chorégraphique International), the CCN proposes a transversal vision of creation, training, artistic education and opening up to audiences. Supported by practices and territories, the ICI-CCN project is above all a prospective space that encompasses in a single movement, the invitation of artists, the writing of the choreographic gesture and the manifestations of its sharing.
In conversation with Emmanuelle Huynh, artist and head of the Beaux-Arts de Paris workshop, and Alain Berland, head of cultural programming.
