Polish director Krystian Lupa is the patron of the 10th edition of the Un Week-End à l’Est festival, which this year focuses on the artistic scene in Kraków. A major figure in European theater, he has left his mark on the international stage with productions inspired by major literary works—ranging from Dostoevsky and Thomas Bernhard to Kafka.

First introduced to French audiences in 1998 with his adaptation of Hermann Broch’s The Sleepwalkers, he has since maintained a special connection with France. Through his recent works—such as The Emigrants and Capri – Island of Fugitives, which have been or will soon be presented at the Théâtre de l’Odéon—this encounter will offer an opportunity to explore his vision of Europe, touching on themes from the rise of fascism to exile, as well as his own process of "adjustment," drawing inspiration from other artistic figures such as W. G. Sebald and Jean-Luc Godard.

He is in conversation with Audrey Illouz, head of the cultural program at Beaux-Arts de Paris.
