In line with its commitment to emerging contemporary art, Rubis Mécénat is supporting for the sixth consecutive year the professional development of young artists at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Each year, the Rubis Mécénat Prize enables the winning artist to design and produce a work for the Church of Saint-Eustache and to benefit from the critical guidance of an exhibition curator.
This fall, Rémi Marcel, the 2026 winner, is creating an installation on display at the Saint-Eustache Church, with critical guidance from curator Oulimata Gueye.
Rémi Marcel’s installation engages in a dialogue with the Church of Saint-Eustache, its architecture, and its place in the urban history of food.
This sculptural project evokes Saint-Eustache’s location at the heart of Les Halles, the former “belly of Paris.” Inspired by the church’s architecture itself, the artist installs two half-columns that support nothing but contain. One houses a self-sustaining ecosystem where wheat will sprout; the other serves as its frozen imprint. The first half draws inspiration from the natural elements that leave their mark on the church—such as the sun and rain—while the second half is its molded clay body, now transformed into a mineral memory, much like an archaeological relic. The installation reminds visitors of the former proximity of Paris’s largest food market, while stepping outside the city’s temporal rhythm to make room for practices that seem distant to us—those of farmers rooted in the rhythm of harvests and germination.
