In partnership with Art Basel Paris, the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris is delighted to host the project by Kutluğ Ataman and the Niru Ratman Gallery, Küba.
Forty television sets are scattered amongst mismatched armchairs and second-hand furniture. Each screen shows the testimony of a resident of Küba, a community on the outskirts of Istanbul – now gone – founded in the late 1960s by people fleeing political persecution. Facing the camera, each person shares their memories, fears, convictions and dreams. The stories overlap, with no single voice dominating another – a deliberate choice by the artist Kutluğ Ataman, who uses video to explore how identity is constructed through storytelling.
As they move through the space, visitors gradually piece together a portrait of a community shaped by migration, poverty, mutual support and survival.
This is the fourth project in the Public Programme organised by Art Basel Paris in collaboration with the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
An educational programme will be run every day from 20 to 25 October 2026, from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm, by students from the École du Louvre.
