Through a range of practical and theoretical activities, the 'Photo Extra-Large' chair addresses three major developments in contemporary photography.
On the one hand, the emergence of image-producing algorithms and digital techniques, which are redefining photorealism and accelerating the move away from analogue processes.
On the other hand, a renewed interest in old techniques such as the cyanotype and the daguerreotype is leading contemporary photographic creation to make materiality an important theme in its production.
Lastly, photography is no longer an autonomous field, but is developing with a certain fluidity, in dialogue with sculpture, drawing, architecture and painting.
This chair combines photographers' workshops, the Labo-Photo and theoretical courses devoted to photography, as well as talks by leading figures as part of the School's cultural programme 'Penser le Présent'.
The Chair is supported by the Neuflize OBC Foundation.
