Chourouk Hriech approaches drawing as a journey through space and time. In graphic worlds dominated by black and white, ranging in scale from the page to the wall, she blends different cities, contexts, histories and ruins of the past to create poetic cartographies that are both real and imaginary.
The monograph dedicated to her work, published by Beaux-Arts de Paris Éditions, takes the form of a beautiful illustrated book punctuated by essays from eminent critics. The volume offers, for the first time, an overview of her prolific and rich body of work, which began over twenty years ago: drawings, as well as paintings, sculptures, photographs, performances and videos.
Chourouk Hriech was born in 1977 in Bourg-en-Bresse. A Franco-Moroccan artist now living in Marseille, she draws on her dual cultural heritage to explore a world that constantly transcends cultures, geographies and histories. She teaches at the Marseille School of Fine Arts.
