In 1885, the École des Beaux-Arts was extended by the property of the Prince de Chimay. This elegant residence, built in the 17th century, was transformed by François Mansart, then embellished by Charles Le Brun and André Le Nôtre. It was almost entirely emptied in order to create workshops dedicated to the teaching of artistic practices. From this rich past, the Hotel still has Empire-style decorations and an enchanting garden, due to Josephine de Beauharnais' cousin, Sophie Tascher de la Pagerie, to whom Napoleon I gave the building in 1808.
