‘Passing the flame was a truly unforgettable and intense moment, an experience I deeply cherish.’ Amira Al-Sharif

She will be exhibiting her photos from 05/09 to 04/10 at the Bibliothèque Arthur Rimbaud.

Amira Al-Sharif

A freelance photojournalist, Amira Al-Sharif is published in numerous English and Arabic newspapers and magazines in Yemen and abroad. She has won numerous awards, including from the Magnum Foundation and the Safirlab programme, and was nominated as a finalist for the 2019 Free Press Awards. She also works with NGOs and international institutions (UNICEF, UNHCR, Oxfam).

A photography teacher to hundreds of young people in Yemen, she has also led a major documentary project, Yemeni Women with Fighting Spirits, which focuses on the resilience of Yemeni women.

In a country at war, where the majority of photographers are men, Amira Al-Sharif pushes back cultural and social boundaries by going into the daily lives of these women, even to the point of putting her own life at risk.
