The Anouk Foundation and the Georges Pompidou European Hospital – AP-HP have joined forces with Beaux-Arts de Paris to help improve the living environment within the hospital and promote the creation and dissemination of works by young artists.
The OASIS project by Bahar Kocabey, a student in the Fresco & Art in Context program at Beaux-Arts de Paris, was chosen to decorate the walls of the new lounge for patients in the Medical-Surgical Unit for Adult Congenital Heart Disease. The murals, created in situ using paint and ceramics, are currently being produced and will be completed in September.
Located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, the Georges Pompidou European Hospital - AP-HP meets the healthcare needs of nearly 600,000 residents. Its Cardiology Department offers the latest innovations and has a congenital heart disease unit that treats adult patients with congenital heart defects, whether for cardiac surgery or medical care.
The Anouk Foundation, created in 2008, is an operational non-profit foundation based in Geneva, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of patients and staff in medical and social institutions through innovative artistic interventions. Through its unique therapeutic wall method, the Foundation has reached more than 6.1 million beneficiaries in 17 countries, including Europe and the United States.
"For this artistic intervention, I tried to break down the term ‘oasis’ based on my experience during my residency in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This city is linked to the desert with several oases, including Wadi Hanifa, which is the most popular and renowned for its resilience thanks to its water source. Riyadh is developing with the idea of making vegetation more resilient by re-examining seeds and the environment. With this proposal, I would like to try to engage patients through reflection and imagination." Bahar Kocabey
Throughout the creative and production process, Bahar Kocabey benefited from the support of Virginie Pringuet, head of the department, Marina Duroux, and Carole Lombard from the Anouk Foundation. Thank you to all the individuals and teams from the foundation, the hospital, and the school who mobilized and participated in the realization of this generous project.
