To mark the publication of their monograph Monochrome by Beaux-Arts de Paris Editions, artist duo The Bells Angels are taking over the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins.
A dialogue with writer Tristan Garcia, professor at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and long-time collaborator, opens the evening. Julien Sirjacq, artist and workshop leader at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, and Simon Bernheim, artist and musician (member of 10LEC6), design multifaceted projects: books, exhibitions, vinyl records, radio workshops, lighting installations, magazines and graphic charters, in France and abroad.
The Bells Angels is a duo founded in the late 2000s by Julien Sirjacq and Simon Bernheim. Their meeting marked the transition from individual experiences to a collective practice, initiated by the creation of a fanzine and a platform open to a constellation of artists. Their approach aims to invent hybrid forms on the fringes of the traditional circuit, abolishing the notion of authorship in favour of the collective.
After the pandemic, they initiated a new phase with the Crowd Processing paintings, created by four hands. Part of the genealogy of Polke, Ruscha and Mehretu, these black and white works incorporate photomechanical patterns, between spectral figuration and apocalyptic visions. Medals, logos and pins emerge on the surface, inviting a critical archaeology of images. At the same time, their theatrical collaborations extend this research into scenography and staging. The Bells Angels thus unfold as an artistic laboratory, relentlessly exploring the circulation of forms, images and collective narratives.
