The Rencontres Aiguillages are organised throughout the year so that Via Ferrata students can meet and talk to artists and professionals from different creative sectors. They come to present their work, their careers, their activities and give them advice to help them in their future direction and choice of studies.
Meeting with Tatiana Da SIlva Vaz
"Artist and clothing designer, Tatiana illustrates the mutation of black bodies in the social space of a European society that confronts them with its values. Her work explores a psychic and physical journey of initiation: she fleshes out her reflections on the body, its appearance, its evolutions, its metamorphoses, its feelings and its fragilities by using the ‘material part’ of animate beings: the skin, which bears witness to its value and identity.
The notion of the ‘vagabond body’ is omnipresent, as she herself evolves between several cultures that make up her identity: her father's Cape Verde, her mother's Portugal and France. Tatiana reinterprets the movements she loves: Arte Povera and Anti-Fashion, which favour the use of simple materials: natural or salvaged elements that enhance the conceptual dimension of nomadism. Tatiana's work is part of an approach that revalues materials in their raw state. She explores sensitivity through the simplicity of a material, sculpting her thoughts through leather, ceramics, photography, performance and video. In this way, she engages her thinking and her practice with volume, material and the body, in an approach that crosses clothing and sculpture, material and life experience, critical reflection and craft skills".
